Interesting facts about The Gap

The Gap, located to the north west of Brisbane, is a leafy suburb surrounded on four sides by bush land. To the south of The Gap is the Mount Coot-tha Forest and to the west is the Enoggera Reservoir. All the surrounding bush land creates the perfect habitat for snakes. Snakes caught in The Gap include the Carpet Python, by far the most common, the Green Tree Snake and the Yellow Face Whip Snake. In recent years there have also been a small number of Eastern Brown Snakes removed from The Gap. There are a few creeks that run through the gap and connect up to Breakfast Creek. These waterways provide the perfect habitat for a variety of snakes. In recent years a number of cats have been eaten by pythons in The Gap so we strongly advise keeping cats inside the house as much as possible.
